Above the chrysanthemum pattern on the tenugui, C3PO is in his classic stance next to his dear friend. R2D2. The Japanese word tenugui translates to “towel” or “rag”. Through the centuries tenugui was used any way that a strip of cloth could be used, be it a head scarf, belt or towel. The unfinished edges of the all-cotton fabric allowed easy tearing. It has now been lifted from its working class origins to an art medium. These tenugui are a mixture of Japanese traditional landscape aesthetic and the iconography of Star Wars. 100% cotton. 36” X 13”.
